Ikebana
An invitation to an ikebana (flower arranging) exhibit came from Bill's co-worker, Saheki-san. It was in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Ohara Ryu school of ikebana, Tokyo chapter. Saheki-san has been studying ikebana for 20 years. The exhibit was held on the 11th floor of the "classy" Takeshimaya Dept. Store in Shinjuku. We went on April 20th.
More than flower arranging, ikebana is a
disciplined art form, combining human design and nature. Ikebana often
emphasizes other areas of the plant beyond the blooms, such as its stems and
leaves, focusing on shape, line, form. Ikebana is a creative and
personal expression, it has certain rules governing its form. Each
piece uses color combinations, natural shapes, graceful lines, and the implied
meaning of the arrangement. Enjoy the photos of some of our favorites.
